It's crunch time! We have put a lot of importance on this year group in Maths and have therefore requested and have been granted additional classes so that we can make the sets more target focussed and offer more support through smaller groups. We currently have two high ability groups, two C/D borderline classes for early entry in November, two C/D groups for June entry, two small groups of D/E students who require more individual attention and two groups of students who find maths very challenging and who need much more focussed support. We also have a fantastic HLTA who has her own small group of students who take both an entry level qualification as well as, where appropriate, their Maths Foundation GCSE too. This group also benefits from having our dedicated maths link TA.
The final grade is 100% final exam and is in two tiers - Foundation for grades C to G and Higher for grades A* to D.
As we offer such a varied programme in order to maximise potential for each individual student, each class follows a unique scheme of work, dependent on the learning needs of the students in that class. Each student studies a variety of key topics that will be necessary for them to achieve their own aspirational target.
We offer additional revision booster sessions after school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, with members of the maths team available for extra lessons or past paper revision. Students are encouraged to attend and are given achievement points so attendance, as well as tea and biscuits for sustenance!
This year, we have also been fortunate enough to offer small extraction groups for some students who we feel need a little extra support in order to gain their GCSE grade.
