Course content
In year 10, we continue with the GCSE course that students will have started towards the end of year 9. This is the last year that we follow the Kangaroo stages that can be found on the VLE. Students will study a variety of topics from across all four areas of maths - Number, Algebra, Shape ad Space, and Handling Data.
As we understand the rigour and difficulty of a maths GCSE and that it is a key subject for all students, we have smaller class sizes in year 10 in order to offer more support.
Any students who are taking a Diploma who do not currently have the required level at Functional Skills will take this exam during this year. These exams are related to real-life situations and require students to apply their knowledge far more than a standard maths exam. The exams are currently a requirement if they have chosen a diploma course as one of their options. If they wish to complete a level 1 diploma, they must pass level 1 functional skills and so on.
The statistics module at the end of this year is carried out as an investigation, which may then be used as coursework should the students continue to take a statistics GCSE in Year 11.
We formally assess each half term to monitor student progress and identify any areas where students are struggling.

Homework/coursework requirements
Homework is set weekly - this can be either traditional written pieces, research or from the mymaths website, of which students should already be familiar from Key Stage 3.
