Mathematics - Year 8

Course content

In year 8, we want to maintain the enthusiasm that students have for maths as well as develop their skills. Each student in year 8 will follow a similar scheme of work, but at different levels dependent on the set they are in. We follow the Kangaroo stages which can found on our VLE.

Students will study a variety of topics across all four areas of the maths curriculum - Number, Algebra, Shape and Space, and Handling Data. The different stages offer core, support and extension work so that each student is stretched at their own personal level.

We try to build on the work that they will have done in their Learning to Learn lessons so that the lessons are more skilled based. Students will be encouraged to develop their problem solving and application skills. This is to ensure that students actually understand what they are doing, rather than simply repeating given examples.

We formally asses each half term to monitor student progress and identify any areas where students are struggling.
